Veteran's Day

I took the kids to the Orting Soldier's Home for their Veteran's Day program yesterday. It was a beautiful program and brought tears to our eyes. Here is a poem I found that I really liked.

Veteran's Day
by Cheryl Dyson

On Veteran's Day we honor all
Who answered to a service call.
Soldiers young, and soldiers old,
Fought for freedom, brave and bold.
Some have lived, while others died,
And all of them deserve our pride.
We're proud of all the soldiers who
Kept thinking of red, white, and blue.
They fought for us and all our rights,
They fought through many days and nights.
And though we may not know each name,
We thank ALL veterans just the same.

Local 66 Summer Picnic at Wild Waves

June, 2009

Since I am so behind with blogging, I have to date some of these posts. Tim's annual Sheet Metal Workers Local 66 picnic was held again this year at Wild Waves. I really didn't take many pictures but believe me, we had a blast! The kids were in the water and on the rides non stop. We had a great catered BBQ lunch and beautiful weather!

Oh well.

Jonathan, after getting up at 5 a.m. to go out fishing, has had enough!

Jonathan's catch of the day!

Jonathan the skipper out on the Columbia River.

Here is Tim reeling one in!

I already messed up on the "blog every day for a month"! Forgot to do it yesterday. But I have a good excuse! Hannah and I spent the day with Bee making cute magnets and ornaments out of fimo clay. We had so much fun and then we came home and had dinner with Kayla and watched "Princess Diaries 2". It was a wonderful "girl day". The boys are having a great time as well, but so far no meat. :( I'm glad they can go do this hunting thing every year. They have such a good time together and it's great "boy time" for them.
These are some pictures from our summer boating activities!

Harvest time!

Remember "Where's Waldo?" This is "Where's Jonathan?"
Hannah and Kristina thought it would be fun to stick bean leaves all over themselves!

Hannah's corn (before and after) :)

Aug-Oct, 2009
Well, the harvest is officially all in and done for the season. We froze blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and marionberries. We made raspberry and strawberry jam, froze corn (a total of 125 ears), canned 24 qts. of peaches, 32 qts. of pears, 25 pints of tomatoes, and 25 qts of applesauce. Oh, and 2 qts. of beans! I intend to do more beans next year. They are really easy but I tend to forget about them out in the garden and when I do remember, they are too big to use. There is a very small window of time when the beans are just the perfect size. Here are a few pictures.

Rondi's Baby Shower

Cyndi, Mom and Nancy getting caught up.
Charlie's Angels have got nothing on these three cuties!

What a fine time we had today (Saturday) celebrating the upcoming birth of Rondi's baby girl! I don't even know how many years it has been...too many...since I've seen her and her family. It was so fun to see everyone and celebrate this precious new life. Time just goes so fast. I used to babysit these girls and their brother when they were younger than Jonathan and Hannah. Such good memories.
